The young Serbian-Austrian mezzo-soprano Tijana Grujic (pronounced: Ti-yana Gru-yich) is steadily earning international acclaim for her performances of leading operatic roles. Praised by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung for her “sizeable voice with a warm, rich timbre,” the 29-year-old mezzo began her association with Landestheater Linz (Austria) in 2004, where she has performed over 15 roles, including Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Orlowsky in Die Fledermaus, Siebel in Faust, La Speranza in L’Orfeo, Mercedes In Carmen, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Seviglia, Olga in Eugen Onegin. Tijana sang the roles from Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos under the baton of chief conductor Dennis Russell Davies.
Tijana Grujic recently appeared in Germany with Staatstheater Nürnberg as Rosina, Staatstheater Darmstadt as the Page in Salome, Eduige in Rodelinda, and Smeraldine in The Love of Three Oranges. Her additional performances have included numerous roles with Staatstheater Mainz, and Sesto in Heinrich Graun’s Caesar and Cleopatra with the Festival Kammeroper Rheinsburg.
She also gave a number of solo recitals that became well known in Germany for her outstanding interpretations of german “Lied” and Slavic composers. She participated in music festivals Germany and Austria (Saarbrucken New Music Festival, Festival of World Music Berlin, Culture days Karlsruhe, Bruckner Fest Linz). Mahler’s Lieder eine fahrenden Gesellen sang Tijana with the Symphony of Thuringer State Theatre. With Bruckner Orchester Linz she sang Beethoven's Ninth Symphony as an Open-Air concert under the baton of Dannis Russel Davies. Her additional orchestral repertoire includes J.S. Bach’s Mass in b minor, Mozart’s Mass in c minor, and Rossini’s Petit Messe Solonelle.
Tijana Grujic was born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, and earned her music graduate degree with honors at the Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz (Germany).
